Teri Briggs Santa BarbaraTeri Briggs has been teaching at Goleta Family School since 1994. She received her BA in Latin American Studies from UCSB. She also received her teaching credential and Masters of Education from UCSB. Her Master’s focus was on intrinsic motivation which is an integral part of her teaching philosophy. She is also passionate about having children experience the outdoors with an emphasis on stewardship and an awareness of our community outside the classroom. Teri lives in the Santa Barbara Harbor on the boat she built with her husband. She always loved the ocean so waking up each morning to the sound of the birds catching fish, seals barking, exquisite sunrises, and the sound of the fog horn brings much joy and appreciation. Her passions are yoga and dance. She also enjoys attending theater and film productions.

Iain Garcia (2nd-3rd)

IanImage Iain came to Goleta Family School bringing a variety of life experiences and backgrounds. He was an officer with the California Highway Patrol, and he was stationed here in Goleta /SB. He eventually realized, however, that he was meant for something different. Something more fulfilling to his life. He felt that he needed to be a more positive influence and impact on the community. He ended up resigning from law enforcement and became a community mentor, helping individuals with special needs. Iain completed the teaching credential program at Antioch University and earned his Master of Arts (MA) in Education degree with a concentration in Nature-Based Early Childhood Education. As a newer educator, Iain student-taught at McKinley Elementary School and at Santa Barbara Charter School as part of his credential program. Iain is conversant in Spanish and has been a musician for over 20 years. Music is one of the biggest passions in Iain’s life. His wife, Nicole, is also a teacher. She’s been teaching junior high with SBUSD for 14 years. Their three-year-old daughter, Kylie, and eight-month-old son, Oliver, keep them very busy, very happy, and always on the go! Iain loves spending as much time as he can at the beach with his friends and family. You’ll probably find him on the courts playing beach volleyball and splashing in the water with the kids. Iain and Nicole love to travel the world. They’ve already journeyed to places including Argentina, Costa Rica, Thailand, Australia, Korea, Mexico, and most of the continental states. They have a dream of traveling to a new country every summer, and they hope to become better, kinder humans in life from the cultural experiences they gain!
